Police in Pakistan say that a village council has permitted a local landlord to rape the sister and sister-in-law of a man he accused of entering an illicit relationship with his daughter.

Two years ago four men were sentenced to death in Pakistan for the gang rape of a woman, which was authorised as punishment by a village council.

It has now emerged that just one-week ago another council, in the Punjab village of Donga Naich, authorised a powerful local landlord named Ghaffar, to rape the sister and sister-in-law of a man he accused of having the illicit relationship with his daughter.

A lawyer representing the two women, aged 16 and 22, alleges that his clients were locked in a room and raped by the landlord while his male relatives stood guard and council members waited outside.

One of the landlord's male relatives claims that the women were not raped but forced to strip.

Local police in the area have ordered the arrest of all six men involved.
